Panerai has announced that it will launch two new timepieces this fall, each in limited editions. One is available exclusively through Panerai’s e-commerce platform; the other introduces new composite material on the dial. Read on to find out more about the Submersible Azzurro – 42 MM and the Luminor Luna Rossa GMT – 42 MM.
The ‘Azzurro’ in the replica Panerai Submersible Azzuro – 42 MM refers to its most intriguing element – the matte blue ceramic ring with graduated diving scale, mounted in a unidirectional ratchet bezel. The cushion-shaped case is made of AISI 316L steel with a satin-brushed finish and has a diameter of 42mm. The familiar locking crown protection on the right side of the case and the screw-down steel case back ensure water resistance to 300 meters.
Another new model, limited to 240 pieces, is the latest result of Panerai’s partnership with the Italian Luna Rossa team, the challengers for the upcoming Prada Cup Challenge selection series, which will host the 36th America’s Cup in 2021.The striking dial of the Luna Rossa GMT – 42 MM Luminous is made by the Made from Scafotech, a new high-tech polymer made from carbon fiber residue collected and recycled from the hull and hydrofoils of the Italian team’s AC75 yacht. The bezel, on the other hand, is made from another such composite material, Carbotech, which Panerai has been using since it introduced to the replica watch industry a few years ago. These two substances give their components a unique textured look.
The 42mm case is made of sandblasted titanium and includes a patented bridge-type crown locking mechanism. The numerals and indices on the dial of the sandwich construction are immersed in white Super-LumiNova, which glows bright green in low light. Inside the case, behind the screwed dodecagonal case back, is Panerai’s P.9010/GMT self-winding movement, with a three-day power reserve of two bars powering the hours, minutes, small seconds, date display, and GMT display in the second time zone.
