Today, however, we’re going to review one of the models in the Rolex Datejust 41mm collection and compare it to the Oyster Perpetual 39mm to provide you with the key information you need to see which one is best for you.

A large number of Rolex watches have gained amazing nicknames since their launch, and among the various names ranging from athlete to soda flavors, there are many superhero nicknames, namely Batman and the Hulk. The Oyster clasp differs from the Hulk in that it uses the 5 mm Easylink extension system rather than the 20 mm diver’s Glidelock clasp.
However, the Hulk is a dive watch, which means its bezel can only rotate in one direction and it is graduated to 60 minutes to track immersion time. On the other hand, the Batman is a GMT watch. As such, its bezel rotates in both directions and is marked with 24 hours to show the time in another time zone.

The Rolex Submariner ref. 116613LB “Bluesy” is one of the brand’s most striking modern sports watches, featuring yellow gold, stainless steel, blue ceramic, and a matching rising sun blue dial. By no stretch of the imagination is the two-tone Submariner an understated watch – but pair it with a bright blue Cerachrom bezel and a blue dial that dances in the light, and you get a striking watch.

The Submariner 116613LB is housed in a 904L stainless steel and 18K yellow gold Oyster case with a diameter of 40mm. While the previous Submariner ref. 16613LB also had a 40mm case size, this new watch is significantly larger on the wrist thanks to its “super case” silhouette of larger lugs, wider bezel, and thicker crown protection. Since this is a two-tone submarine, the markers on the bezel appear in yellow gold to match the other yellow gold elements of the watch.
As you may or may not already know, Rolesor is the name Rolex has given to its watches that combine gold and steel. The reason why the Rolex Daytona is so hard to find is that it was produced in relatively limited numbers. In the beginning, the watch was not popular at all, so the production numbers were naturally low. However, once the Daytona became popular, it was in Rolex’s best interest to keep the production numbers of this luxury sports watch low in order to maintain its high demand. Furthermore, because Daytona uses a more complex movement than most other watches in the brand’s catalog, Rolex had to increase production because Daytona’s movement is not shared with other watches. However, to understand this history, we have to go back a bit.
Named after the famous Florida race track to help appeal to American audiences, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona was actually mostly scoffed at in its early days because its dial was defined by three contrasting sub-dials. It wasn’t until the famous actor and race car driver Paul Newman wore the watch that it was considered cool and desirable. While it is now easily one of the hottest watches in the world, the world will only accept it if a Hollywood heavyweight wears it.
Paul Newman’s endorsement has made the Daytona so much more famous than replica Rolex could have ever imagined that it is not clear what the fate of this previously unpopular watch would have been without his endorsement. We also found that, in general, stainless steel Daytona reference watches were produced in higher numbers than precious metal watches, which makes these ultra-luxurious sports watches even less common today.
These relatively low production numbers are linked to the multi-year waiting list for the Rolex Daytona. Here’s how it works. So is it lucky enough to have an absolutely massive amount of money to splurge? Don’t worry, there are plenty of options for the high-end Submariner as well. Some of the earliest vintage reference watches are very rare and therefore ridiculously expensive.
The first big crown Submariner, Ref. 6200, is better known among fanatics. 6200, better known among fanatics as the King Sub, was produced in less than a year and only about 300 pieces were reportedly made. More unusually, the 3/6/9 hour markers on the dial are more commonly found on replica Rolex Explorers. The last time it was sold was in 2017, when it changed hands at auction for $589,000.
Fortunately, between these two extremes, there is a model to fit almost every pocket. The two-tone Rolesor pieces remain very popular, each with a choice of black or blue dials and bezels.
